II. SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

Please Note: Dark Age of Camelot requires Administrative access to be properly installed and run on Windows XP.
Starting the Installer application:

Place the first CD in your CD-ROM drive. If you have auto-run enabled you should see the Installer application start. If you do not have auto-run enabled or the Installer application does not start, left-click on the Start button on the Windows Desktop, then left-click on “Run”, then type D:\installer (where D is the drive letter for your CD-ROM) and press the Enter key. With the Installer application running you can install DAoC.

Installing DirectX 9.0:

DAoC requires installation of DirectX 9.0 or higher. If you need to update your version of DirectX, left-click on the “Install DirectX” button and follow the instructions provided.

Installing Dark Age of Camelot:

To install DAoC, left-click on the “Install Game” button on the Installer application. The game installer should start. If the game installer does not start, left-click on the Start button on the Windows Desktop, then left-click on “Run” then type D:\setup (where D is the drive letter for your CD-ROM) and press the Enter key. When the game installation program starts follow the instructions provided.

When swapping CDs during the install process, make sure that you wait until your CD drive has “spun down” (usually the drive's activity light stops flashing and goes out) before pressing the eject button. Otherwise you may experience disc contention issues. If you continue to have problems trying to install with your CDs, and you have plenty of free space on your hard drive, you can try the following: Copy Setup.exe from CD #1, Setup.W02 from CD #2 and Setup.W03 from CD #3 to the same directory on your hard drive and then run Setup.exe from there. Remember to delete these files after setup is complete.

Activating your DAoC Account:

If you have an existing account, you can skip this section.

After you install DAoC, run the game. Enter your DAoC CD-Key in the dialog and click the OK button. The game will patch itself and display the login screen. Click the "New Account" button and fill out the displayed form completely. Please note that you need to enter your DAoC CD-Key (make sure all letters are typed in in uppper-case) on this form as well. Please double-check the correctness of all your information before clicking the OK button. When ready, click the OK button only once. You should get a message stating that your new account has been created within a few minutes. If you don't get the message, your information may have registered anyway. Go back to login screen and try to login.

Once you have created an account, you can enter your account name and password into the login screen and proceed to the server select screen.

Activating Expansions:

If you have an expansion that has not been activated, you should see an "Activate Expansion" button on this screen. To activate an expansion, click on the button and this time enter your expansion CD-Key in the dialog and press the OK button. Please note that expansions must be activated in the order of their release, for example, Shrouded Isles must be activated before Trials of Atlantis.

IV. COMMON TECHNICAL AND BILLING QUESTIONS

Why can't I log into Dark Age of Camelot?

Listed below are several possible causes for your inability to log in:
  1. Be sure to use the correct account name and password. Passwords for DAoC are case sensitive.
  2. Take note of patching messages, if the servers are down for patching you cannot log into the game until patching is completed. Further downtime information can be found at: http://www.camelotherald.com
  3. Verify that you have entered a valid CD-Key upon installation of DAoC. (Only one CD-Key is valid per account.)
  4. Make sure to highlight the server that you wish to play on, and click PLAY.
I get a “Renderer Creation Failed” error when playing DAoC. What may be wrong?

If you are using an NVIDIA based video card, this error can be fixed by upgrading to the latest official NVIDIA driver version which can be found at http://www.nvidia.com .

Also, when you have completed updating your video card drivers, it is advised that you re-install the latest version of DirectX. This can be found by going to http://www.microsoft.com/directx.

If none of the above proposed solutions work, you may also attempt the following:

First delete the user.dat file located in the DAoC game folder on your hard drive. This will restore the default in-game resolution setting to 800 x 600.

Next, log into the game through the Server Selection and Character Selection screens, bypassing Quick Entry (have Quick Entry set to 'No Thank You' on the first login screen). At the character selection screen select the in-game resolution that you would like to play at. Do not select in-game resolution you were using while receiving the 'Renderer Creation Failed' error message.

If you wish to experiment with different in-game resolutions, feel free to do so. Simply use the above instructions to reset the default in-game resolution if you begin to receive the 'Renderer Creation Failed' message again.

How do I update my account information (email address, billing address, password)?

Log into DAoC normally (don't use Quick Entry) to get to the Server Select screen. Click on the ‘Edit Account’ button at the bottom of the screen. This will bring up a form where you can edit your account information. Enter your new information in the blank fields, only filling in the fields you wish to change. Then click ‘OK’ at the bottom of the form. Your account will be updated with the new information you entered.

I am having problems when trying to create an account with my new CD-Key, what must I do?

Below are common questions and answers about entering your CD-Key information. Try these common solutions, they will most likely solve your problems.
Upon entering my new account information I am getting the message "Your CD Key is already in use". What could be the problem and what can I do to correct this issue?

If you experience a long pause or timeout after entering your new account information and CD key and experience the message "Your CD Key is already in use" please DO the following:
Please DO NOT do the following: One of the main reasons why it is saying that your "CD-Key is already in use" is because it actually is, by "YOU" the user. When you entered your information the first time, it registered you, even if you did not get a message back. Try to login, you should be able to.

I am getting the message "Your CD-Key appears to be invalid". What can be the problem and what can I do to correct this issue?

There are many reason why this may be happening. Please double check and perform the following:
If after trying the above you still cannot enter the game please call our support center. There is a possibility that the CD-Key is, in fact, in use and the store sold you a used copy by mistake.
What is my Secret Word used for?

Your secret word is an extra level of security which we use to verify your identity when you call the DAoC Support Center for assistance. The secret word verifies account ownership. Mythic Entertainment will not be able to assist you with any account information if you cannot verify your secret word. Check the EUALA for more information. You should never tell anyone your secret word except for CSRs that you have contacted by calling the DAoC Support Center.

I have an APO/FPO address, and the billing details will not process properly. What must I do?

If you have an APO or FPO address, and you are experiencing difficulties in updating your billing details or have problems with your charges processing correctly, please either call or email Customer Support for further assistance. Please call (703) 934-0169 and select option 1 for Billing, or you may choose to email our billing representatives at support@darkageofcamelot.com.
I get the following error message when trying to download the latest patch:

"Could not complete product update. Please wait a while and try connecting again. If you still cannot connect, check your Internet settings."

If you get this message along with an error 304, 305 or 301 (especially on a "Patch Day"), chances are your Internet connection is just fine. The problem is due to the large number of people trying to connect to our patch servers to download the latest patch. Our patch servers can become quite congested depending on factors such as patch size and the number of people currently connected to our patch servers. In this case, you should wait a few hours and try patching again.
